ಸಿಪಿಸಿಆರ್‌ಐ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಾ.11 ರಂದು ಕೃಷಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಿಪಿಸಿಆರ್‌ಐ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಡಾ.ಬಾಲಚಂದ್ರ ಹೆಬ್ಬಾರ್‌ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಕೃಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ರೈತರ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಖಾತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸಚಿವೆ ಶೋಭಾ ಕರಂದ್ಲಾಜೆ , ಸಂಸದರಾದ ನಳಿನ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಕಟೀಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಾಸಕರಾದ ಭಾಗೀರಥಿ ಮುರುಳ್ಯ ಅವರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಿರುವ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ 20 ಲಕ್ಷ ಲೀಟರ್ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ನೀರು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣಾ ತೊಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಸಚಿವರು ಲೋಕಾರ್ಪಣೆಗೊಳಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕೃಷಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಿಕೆ, ತೆಂಗು ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಕೋ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಲು ವಿವಿಧ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಆವಿಷ್ಕಾರಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅಡಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲೆ ಚುಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹಳದಿ ಎಲೆ ರೋಗ ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ, ಬರಪೀಡಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೆಂಗಿನ ಕೀಟ ಮತ್ತು ರೋಗ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ, ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವ, ತೆಂಗು ಮತ್ತು ಅಡಿಕೆ ತೋಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಕೋ ಅಂತರ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು, ಅಡಿಕೆ, ತೆಂಗು ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಕೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಧಾರಿತ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನೆಟ್ಟ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆ, ತೆಂಗಿನಕಾಯಿ, ಅಡಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಕೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌಲ್ಯವರ್ಧನೆ ಮೊದಲಾದ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಡ್ರೋನ್ ಸಿಂಪಡಣೆ, ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮಾದರಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆ ವಿಧಾನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಬೋರ್ಡೋ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ ತಯಾರಿಕೆ ಕುರಿತು ಪ್ರಾತ್ಯಕ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಿದರು.
1916 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾದ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಪ್ಲಾಂಟೇಶನ್ ಕ್ರಾಪ್ಸ್ ರಿಸರ್ಚ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ (CPCRI) ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲ್ ಆಫ್ ಅಗ್ರಿ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ವಿಟ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳದ ಕಾಯಂಕುಲಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಇದು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನ ಕಹಿಕುಚಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಕಿದು ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರವು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಏಷ್ಯಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರಾಚ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಜೀನ್ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಅನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.
In the Coconut and Arecanut sector, short term and long-term strategies are devised so as to minimize the impact on farmers. To discuss on these issues, a one-day Farmers Meet (Krishi Sammelan) is being organized at ICAR-CPCRI, Research Centre, Kidu on 11th March 2024 .

ICAR- Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) established during 1916 is one of the premier institutes under Indian Council of Agri. Research (ICAR). It has two regional stations at Vittal, Karnataka and Kayamkulam, Kerala and three research centers at Kahikuchi, Assam; Mohitnagar, West Bengal and Kidu, Karnataka. Kidu hosts the International Gene Bank for South Asia and Middle East, world’s largest coconut germplasm repository and alternate cocoa gene bank. In addition to Coconut, arecanut and cocoa, recently palmyra has been included a mandate crop of CPCRI.
Plantation crops provide sustenance to around 30 million people mostly in coastal and hilly tracts. Despite some of the challenges faced such as climate change, price fluctuations, international competition, illegal imports etc., still the gross value added by the sector annually is Rs. 328000 million which is 6.7% of the value added by horticulture sector. During the last decade the gross value output of this sector showed a marked increase of 28%. Still the above challenges put farming community especially small and marginal farmers at risk. For eg. sudden emergence of rugose whitefly in coconut during 2018 and leaf spot disease in arecanut during 2021, had extensively spread to wide area and significantly damaged yield of respective crops before their understanding, devising management strategy and its implementation. Similarly sudden price fluctuations also affect the income of small and marginal farmers to a large extent.
To tide over emerging problems, in the Coconut and Arecanut sector, short term and long-term strategies are devised so as to minimize the impact on farmers. To discuss on these issues, a one-day Farmers Meet (Krishi Sammelan) is being organized at ICAR-CPCRI, Research Centre, Kidu on 11th March 2024 at 11.00 AM. Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest for the function. Local MP Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA Sushri Bhagirathi Murulya are also the guests of honour.
During the meet, various technological innovations and interventions to tackle emerging challenges in the arecanut, coconut, and cocoa sectors will be addressed in the technical sessions. These include,
- Scientific management of leaf spot and Yellow Leaf Disease (YLD) in arecanut,
- Coconut pest and disease management in drought-prone areas,
- Significance of Soil health management,
- Prospects of cocoa intercropping in coconut and arecanut plantations,
- Improved varieties and planting material production in arecanut, coconut, and cocoa,
- Post-harvest technologies and value addition in coconut, arecanut, and cocoa
- Farmer supporting initiatives and schemes
The event includes exhibition, with main focus on institute technologies. Demonstrations on drone spraying, soil sample collection methods, and Bordeaux mixture preparation will be conducted. In order to enable skill development, training on agro-techniques will be conducted for the benefit of SC/ST farmers/youth.
On this occasion a water storage tank of 20 lakh litre capacity for complementing the existing irrigation infrastructure at the centre, will be commissioned by the Honorable Minister.
We are expecting 2000 participants including farmers, Researchers and Officials from Government Departments, SHGs/FPOs, Marketing Societies, Developmental Agencies and Entrepreneurs to participate in this meet.
